The Charlotte Area Association of Black Journalists (CAABJ) is an affiliate chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), a nonprofit organization focused on establishing strong ties among African-Americans working in the media and expanding and balancing the media's coverage of the African-American community and experience.

Past CAABJ President Retires

Fannie Flono


Fannie Flono, Associate Editor at The Charlotte Observer, is retiring this month after 30 years at the paper. She spent 20 years as an editorial writer and columnist. In a note to staff, Editorial Page, Editor Taylor Batten wrote "Fannie has been a leading voice in this
community on a variety of issues, with public education and poverty among those about which she has been most passionate." 

Fannie also is a past president of Charlotte Area Association of Black Journalists. 

The Observer is holding a public farewell for Fannie from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, September 22 in the lobby of the Observer, 600 S. Tryon Street.

Congratulations Fannie! Your CAABJ family loves you and wish you the very best in your retirement.
