Covering the Hispanic community

At our March general body meeting, we'll hold our first professional development session on a topic of great importance to our region: the growing Hispanic community. The meeting is set for 11:30 am. March 18 in the Dowd board room of the Levine Museum of the New South, 200 East Seventh St.

Our guest panelists will be Angeles Ortega-Moore, executive director of the Latin American Coalition and John Romero of WCNC-TV and an at-large officer for television for the National Association of Hispanic Journalists-Charlotte chapter. Both with talk about on-going issues within the Hispanic community, and offer tips on how to cover this segment of our community.

Two of our chapter’s biggest goals are to help promote diversity in news coverage and help our members hone their reporting skills. We think that this workshop will help us do both, and you’ll walk away with tools to help write stories about this segment of our community.

Learn more about both organizations at www.latinamericancoalition.org and www.nahjcharlotte.org.
