Accepting Nominations for Inaugural CAABJ News Excellence Awards

The Charlotte Area Association of Black Journalists (CAABJ) is pleased to announce our inaugural News Excellence Awards. Starting this year, we will acknowledge exceptional reporting on Charlotte’s African-American communities. As parliamentarian of the organization, I want to express my hope that you’ll be there. It’s going to be another terrific evening that you won’t want to miss.

But before that night, I hope you will take the time to nominate yourself or someone from your news organization. The awards competition is open to all media organizations and individuals involved in print, television, radio or online journalism. Submissions must cover the people or issues of the black (African-American, Caribbean, African or diaspora) community. Entries will be judged on content, creativity and relevance to the black community.

The deadline for entry is November 8, 2013. Winners will be honored at our Charlotte Observer-hosted year-end celebration in December.

We’ll also honor groundbreaking accomplishments with a Best Practices Award for the Charlotte media outlet doing the most to support diversity in media. I personally invite you to join us in upholding the best in Queen City journalism.

Looking forward to your nominations, and to seeing you at the awards reception,

Emiene Wright,
CAABJ Parliamentarian
