Carl McLean Tapped for Station Honor
Charlotte Area Association of Black Journalists members continue to make a difference in the workplace. WSOC veteran photographer, editor and satellite truck operator Carl McLean proves that. Friday Carl received the inaugural WSOC/ WAXN-TV Noogie Award. The monthly award is given to the employee who has shown dedication and leadership beyond the call of duty. Station Manager Joe Pomillo presented the award during a brief ceremony.
Carl has covered news in Charlotte for 29 years. You may not know his face, but you've seen his work. He's documented some of the biggest moments in Charlotte history, including Hurricane Hugo, the Jim Bakker scandal, the NBA expansion to Charlotte-Hornets, the Rae Carruth murder trial, the trial of serial killer Henry Lewis Wallace and the Panthers' Super Bowl appearance.
Co-worker and CAABJ President Ken Lemon calls Carl the model newsman. "Carl does it all, knows it all, and uses his talents to improve everyone around him. He often works magic with a camera. His advice to me early in my career with WSOC was invaluable".
Carl says "I've really been blessed to do a job that's been exciting and demanding. After all these years I still love it! And to think they pay me to do it! LOL!"
Congratulations, Carl!
