The Charlotte Area Association of Black Journalists (CAABJ) is an affiliate chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), a nonprofit organization focused on establishing strong ties among African-Americans working in the media and expanding and balancing the media's coverage of the African-American community and experience.

Media-access workshop set for Jan. 28 at UNC Charlotte

We are pleased to announce our first event for the year, "Secrets to Accessing the Media: How to Get your Stories Told." The workshop is set for 1:30 p.m. Jan. 28 in Salons A & B of the Student Activity Center at UNC Charlotte, 9201 University City Blvd. Free parking is available in the Cone and West decks. Please note that we will have a short general body meeting at 12:30.

This workshop aims to empower community members by giving them a chance to learn the best ways to pitch story ideas to print and broadcast outlets, and how to build relationships with members of the media.

Special thanks to program chair Lena Warmack of The Charlotte (CAABJ's vice president of print), Morgan Josey of The Gaston-Gazette, Ken Lemon of WSOC-TV, Dedrick Russell of WBTV and other members of the board of directors for their roles in planning the event.

Media Contact List
We will distribute a list of media companies and contacts to attendees. Please forward information about your company to Dedrick Russell at darussell@wbtv.com by Friday, Jan. 13. Information needed: main contact name and title; organization, office number, fax number, e-mail, web site, and a list of other African-American journalists at your organization.

Refreshments
